FA Cup Final Preview - Arsenal v Chelsea

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. What a funny week we have had. Scotland are beginning to ease their way out of lockdown, while some parts of England are heading towards a second one. Some tests events on getting supporters back into sports venues have been cancelled, while claims have been made this morning that the death numbers reported by the Government are inflated. It's becoming very difficult to know who or what to believe in the current climate. We all should just continue to follow our local advice and hopefully as a country we are moving in the right direction towards returning to a normal life. I feel like this was the only topic I could choose for today's blog (I am an Arsenal fan after all). The biggest game of the English football season. A historic competition entered by over 750 teams back in August, and now only 2 remain. Not only is it a major cup final, but it's also a London derby. These 2 teams quite often compete for silver...

Why Is Life Hard?

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. It has been a very busy weekend since I last spoke to you all on Friday, not least because the Premier League season finally finished and incredible 352 days after it started. Well done if your team achieved its targets for the season, but commiserations if you are a Norwich, Bournemouth or Watford supporter. I wish you the best in the Championship next season. Football can be hard. However, football isn't the only thing that can be described as hard. Life in general can be too. With so many obstacles facing us each day we wake up, it is important that we possess that inner strength to battle through and get to the top. Subjective of course, but I believe there are 3 main difficulties in life that we must overcome.  If I may, I want to start with the one thing that gets under my skin more than anything in the world. People. Not all people. Some people are genuinely good. There's others, however, that I am sure were j...

True Happiness

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. I thought I would begin today with a brief life update. Work has finished for the summer holidays and we are not due to return until September 4th (hopefully we're not back in lock down by then). I'm playing more golf (and better golf) during the sunnier weather and now I have more time on my hands, hopefully the handicap can decrease by a shot or 2. For those of you who will understand, currently my handicap is 11. The football season has nearly finished, but I am very much looking forward to August 1st when my beloved Arsenal face Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup final (next Friday's blog will be a preview for that match).  So now onto the topic of today's blog. Hopefully you read my blog 'Make Yourself Happy' on July 13th (if you didn't you know the drill by now). This is a follow up to that explaining what true happiness really is and how we can all achieve it everyday. We all deserve to be happ...

Keep Busy

Good afternoon and welcome back to yet another blog. It feels like I am constantly coming up with new ideas for these which is great. There are hundreds of topics and questions out there just waiting to be addressed. For those of you who are regular readers will have read an entry called 'Declutter Your Mind' on the 19th June. For those of you who haven't read it (you really should), it's basically about trying to keep your mind clear and have as few thoughts as possible when you are stressed. Lots of people agreed that it's best to give yourself time and space and to be by yourself. However, I received a number of comments suggesting that they prefer to stay busy and fill their minds so they are not thinking about the difficult times. I promised them a part 2 looking at that perspective, and here it is. For me, the most relaxing thing that I could do is listen to music. You don't necessarily need to sing at the top of your lungs or dance like a nutter around yo...

Age Is Just A Number

Good afternoon and welcome back to yet another blog. I hope you are all staying hydrated in the sun and remembering your sun screen. As tempting as it may be to go down the beach for the weekend or meet friends for get togethers in the park, please remember that we are still nowhere near out of the woods (a very early reference there for you) with the whole Covid situation. We all still have massive role to play and the quicker we all do that, the quicker we can return to life as we knew it at the beginning of the year. Today's topic is a bit of a cliché but I feel it is an issue that every one of us should apply to our daily lives. And that is that age is nothing more than a number. Why should you not do the things you want to do because of your age? What right does anyone else have to tell you not to do something because your either too old or too young. It's your life so you make the call (that's number 2 - I'm keeping count today). Be the person who you want to be. ...

Make Yourself Happy

Good afternoon and welcome back to another blog. It finally feels like we can say summer is back as the weather continues to get sunnier and warmer. I'm sure most of you are taking advantage of that by having barbecues, going to the pub, meeting with family and friends or just spending time outdoors exercising. I know when I spend time outside it makes me happy. That is what today's topic is - how to keep yourself in a happy state of mental health. Now for various reasons I may not be the best person to give advice on this, but I want to try and help some of you increase your level of happiness. I've tried to compile a list of small things that can be done easily, quickly and hassle-free. They can be done anywhere and by yourself for the ultimate level of convenience. The only things that are needed are the desire and willingness to want to be more happy. Let's start with something that is very underrated and taken for granted - breathing. Yes we do it every day but are...

Swifties Are The Best Friends Ever!

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. Hopefully you have all been enjoying the pubs and restaurants this week while maintaining social distancing of one metre plus (whatever that's meant to mean). Before I get into the topic of today's blog I just want to make one thing crystal clear. I love everyone who I am lucky enough to call my friend. If I hadn't said that I guarantee I would have people sending me hate or blocking me on social media. Just because you are not mentioned in this blog does not mean that you are an enemy (unless you're mean to me of course). The first thing some of you are probably wondering is what the bloody hell is a Swiftie (first swear word I've ever used on here - impressive huh)? Well the answer is obvious to any Taylor Swift fans reading. Swifties is what her biggest fans call themselves. And I most certainly fall into that category. I only met these people a few months ago, and that was by chance. Across the UK eve...

Should've Said No

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. Once again there very nearly wasn't an entry today due to a family emergency this morning, but I really enjoy writing and didn't want to let you guys down. I will apologise for making this a shorter blog as I didn't have as much time to plan and prepare. I assure you there will be a part 2 of this in the future. Before we get started, I hope you were all sensible over the weekend with the pubs re-opening and that you took my advice from Friday. Pub owners and bar staff have a very difficult job at the moment and we all need to play our part in making it easier for them, ensuring we all get served quicker. Have you ever been in a situation where you are working on a job and people keep coming up to you saying "Can you do this" or "When you have a minute"? And all the time, instead of giving the honest answer that we are busy, we say yes. "Leave it on my desk and I'll see to it later...

Let's Get Smashed!

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. I very nearly did not write an entry today as this has been a very difficult week for me for multiple reasons. However, I know a lot of you are regular readers now and I did not want to disappoint you by not posting. It's so nice to see some people visiting on every Monday and Friday, and for that I am very grateful. As you may or may not be able to tell from the title, this blog is about the Government's decision to continue to ease the lock down measures further, and particularly with pubs reopening in less than 24 hours time (sorry Leicester but it ain't my fault). Obviously I am saddened that the good people of Leicester have to go through a second wave of lock down, but at the same time grateful that I live in London (wait until my friend reads that - "You don't live in London!"). Hopefully Leicester will be back to a civilised way of life soon. For those of you who have been living under a roc...
