Why Is Life Hard?

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. It has been a very busy weekend since I last spoke to you all on Friday, not least because the Premier League season finally finished and incredible 352 days after it started. Well done if your team achieved its targets for the season, but commiserations if you are a Norwich, Bournemouth or Watford supporter. I wish you the best in the Championship next season. Football can be hard. However, football isn't the only thing that can be described as hard. Life in general can be too. With so many obstacles facing us each day we wake up, it is important that we possess that inner strength to battle through and get to the top. Subjective of course, but I believe there are 3 main difficulties in life that we must overcome.

If I may, I want to start with the one thing that gets under my skin more than anything in the world. People. Not all people. Some people are genuinely good. There's others, however, that I am sure were just put on this planet to cause anger, disruption and negativity. For example, you're strolling down the confectionary aisle in Tesco. You know what you want but you can't get past someone who has their trolley turned sideways and are taking up the whole room. I just hope those people got on the bus and didn't drive to the shop. Extreme example yes, but irritating all the same. Or when you're talking to someone via an online dating app who you seem to be getting on really well with then one day out of the blue she turns round and calls you boring then blocks you from her account. What a massive sanke. Oh by the way, that online dating part, true story (an insight there as to why I'm still a single pringle waiting to mingle).

Probably the biggest headache for everyone at some time during their lives is money. Whether that be saving up to buy a property or just trying to put food on the table, we all know about financial tightness. It feels like we're being pulled under water, and the more we try to stay afloat, the further we get dragged down. Everything is so expensive these days meaning that we can't just go shopping and spend hundreds on the things that we want. We have to put our desires to one side so we can ensure that we have the necessities (unless you're filthy rich in which case give me your money)! Even ordering a pizza from Dominos will set you back a score. It's like these companies do not want us to live. Most of us work super long hours for no reward. Here's a scary fact for you - 90% of the money in the UK is owned by just 10% of the residents. Do the maths. Doesn't seem right does it? And I guarantee most of those 10% have had all their wealth handed to them from their parents.

Sometimes I feel that the biggest prohibitor in our lives are ourselves and what goes on in between our ears. We get scared to make decisions and change. We get too comfortable in a role to the point where we are afraid to step into the unknown. It could be hesitating to accept a new job, not wanting to buy a new car if you enjoy your current one, or something as simple as not buying a bottle of Ketchup that isn't Heinz (to be fair Heinz is the best). We need to try to trick our brain into believing that we can always do better. Some risks are worth taking in life but must be properly analysed before taking that leap of faith. Once you hand in your resignation to your manager there is no turning back. It is time to choose a new path that will lead you to further happiness and success.

I suppose the message I want you to take away today is this. Life is hard. Nothing will ever be handed to you on a silver plate (Coldplay mood today). Everything worth having is worth the time, effort and commitment. Be strong with the decisions you make - it is harder to reverse in life than to accelerate. Do what you want to do and what is right. Nobody knows you better than you. Enjoy living - it will be over before you know it (what a sour note to end on huh).

Have a good week and please remember on Friday it is my FA Cup final preview - one for the football fans but as always open to all.
