Left or Right?

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. It feels different only doing a Monday blog, as Friday's now are being used for my Premier League predictions. I realise that lots of you probably haven't got my level of interest in football, but please keep reading. It only takes a few minutes and it really helps me out. Also feel free to share with any other football fanatics that you might know. Before I really dive in to today's topic, I have a favour to ask you all. This time next week will be episode 2 in my series where I do my best to answer life's big questions. If you could leave any suggestions in the comments below then I would be most grateful (it's worth a shout out to you)! So on to today. Do you think my blogs are the best thing you have ever read? Do you think they are worth reading? Or do you think I should stick to the day job (sankes)? You probably want to know where this is heading? We all interpret the same thing in different way. Why is this? How can the same thing be seen in so many different ways?

Firstly, and I admit I do sound like a stuck record on repeat, we are all unique individuals who have completely different outlooks on life. Some of us are a glass half full person, while others prefer the glass half empty approach. There's another example, optimistic or pessimistic? Positive or negative? Adventurous and play it safe? These are all questions about life that affect the way we live. For example, music. Some people think Taylor Swift is the best songwriter of the modern era, while others think she is overrated and should stop writing petty love songs about the many guys she's dated (not my words). One artist. One style. A million different opinions.

We also all have different values and beliefs. We have different cultures, different ways of life and different experiences. For example, if you believe someone is a mean person, every word or action of theirs will be interpreted in a way that supports these views, even if that is not the way they were intended. If you believe that rich people are arrogant, then every rich person you ever meet you will find a reason to call them arrogant to prove that you were right. We will become biased in these opinions that we form and lose the ability to judge others based on merit. Beliefs come from past experiences and that's why the environment grows the person, to determine the way we see the world to a greater extent.

It is just a matter of how we will understand things that is why we give different meanings to what we see and why. As we are influenced by others, this can also affect our perception over things. There is no fixed meaning to anything (flashback to What Is Life for you there). Perspectives and meanings can always be changed. Whether we want to change them is a different question that only us as individuals can answer.

So the next time you appear to be at a crossroad, or are in disagreement over something, remember that there is no right or wrong way to see a situation. Remember the wine glass. Are you halfway through your drink, or are you halfway to needing a top-up?

Connor
