Life Is A Lie
Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. I want to firstly say thank you to those who are reading or sharing my weekly predictions on a Friday. I know some of you aren't exactly football fans, but please bear with me for the season, as I have got a few new readers from football backgrounds. Today is Monday, though, and that means another blog on the topic of my choice. And today there's another big question (and yes that means an extended article)! As the title says, is life one big lie? Before I get into the serious nature of it, here are some tongue-in-cheek reasons (all true) as to why life is not always as it seems.
1. Gorillas make nests to sleep in (and they only ever use them once).
2. TV commercials use motor oil instead of honey for pancake advertising.
3. Baby carrots are normal-sized carrots cut down to size.
4. Ostriches do not bury their head in the sand. This is an optical illusion as they are so big it just looks like they do.
5. Egypt (130) does not have the most pyramids. Sudan (255) does.
6. Isaac Newton was not hit on the head with an apple.
7. Olympic gold medals do not exist. They are silver-gilt instead.
8. Mice do not like cheese.
9. Oktoberfest is actually celebrated in September.
10. A defibrillator can not restart a stopped heart, only one in an irregular rhythm.
11. Penguins have knees.
12. Thermoplastic tape is used for road markings and not paint.
Ok I reckon that's enough of those. But as I said earlier, all of them are true facts. This does not mean that everything is a lie, however. These are all things which we have been lead to believe as true, and until they are proven otherwise, always will be. Our brains are very complex instruments - they work on cold, hard facts. There are too many examples in life about people being persuaded to believe false information via word of mouth or propaganda. The media is a powerful weapon, but our brains hold the key.
There are some things in life that are true. Fact. Undeniable. For example, 2+2=4 (worked that out all by myself)! Nobody can ever deny that. Other things, however, can be interpreted in many different ways (self-promo to Left or Right). For example, Dominos is the best pizza in the world. To me, a fact that everyone must accept and that everyone who does not share this opinion is wrong. I do accept you have Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Chicago Town and others who al like to think that they are top dogs. In summary (before I started making myself hungry), I believe Dominos is the best pizza and to me is a truth. Others will say this part of life is a lie.
We all have a life which is very precious and we have to live it in the right way that suits us. Sometimes we have interfere with other people's lives to ensure we maximise our own. That person would consider it a lie as it is not what they want. The beneficiary, however, would refer to this as their true path that they are meant to follow. Note the words truth and lie. Everything in life is a truth. And everything in life is a lie. This depends on your perspective.
I will leave you with one simple question (answers in the comments) - are you living a lie?
Connor
