Premier League Matchday 2 Predictions
Everton v West Brom
I said how impressed I was with Everton's summer signings last week and they really impressed at Spurs to win 1-0. West Brom on the other hand were less than impressive. They looked at 6s and 7s at the back and got ripped apart far too often. I think Everton will cruise this one.
Prediction 3-0
Leeds v Fulham
Leeds were very unlucky to leave Anfield empty-handed last week, having conceded a very late penalty. Fulham looked slow, lacklustre and still on the beach in their home defeat by Arsenal. Just a few months ago this was a Championship fixture, but I think it is Leeds who are more prepared for the Premier League. I also expect them to win this one.
Prediction 2-0
Manchester United v Crystal Palace
This is United's first game of the season following an extended break, and the first chance for Donny Van Den Beek to impress. Palace, meanwhile, looked good last week when they beat Southampton. Michy Batshuayi should definitely add goals to their team. The Eagles won at Old Trafford last season, but a repeat this time would be even more of a surprise.
Prediction 2-0
Arsenal v West Ham
The Gunners ripped through Fulham at ease last weekend, at sit top of the league after the first week. West Ham were very wishy-washy last week and came away with nothing despite some decent football. Regardless of last week, I expect a comfortable home win.
Prediction 2-0
Southampton v Tottenham
The imminent arrival of Gareth Bale on loan is getting fans very excited, and why not? A player of his calibre will only add class to the team. Southampton will be a very difficult team to predict this season. They will suffer shock losses as well as win games nobody thinks they will. Spurs had a very tough test in Bulgaria on Thursday, and I think fatigue might play a part.
Prediction 1-1
Newcastle v Brighton
Newcastle's new signings Jeff Hendrick and Callum Wilson have made an immediate impact, not only in creating chances, but scoring goals too. This was the opposite of Brighton, who did not take their chances when they came against Chelsea. I think Newcastle could surprise a few with their final position this season.
Prediction 2-1
Chelsea v Liverpool
Game of the week without a shadow of a doubt. Chelsea and Liverpool both looked impressive going forward, but similarly vulnerable at the back. I am expecting a lot of goals in this game, with a seriously good array of strikers on show. In terms of the result, I will sit firmly on the fence.
Prediction 2-2
Leicester v Burnley
Jamie Vardy hit the ground running on the opening day and I would back him for more goals here. I think Burnley will struggle this season. They have lost key players and not replaced them. Leicester will surely be far too good here.
Prediction 3-0
Aston Villa v Sheffield United
This was the first game played after the restart, when Sheffield United were denied by a fault with goal-line technology. That won't matter here, because I think Villa will win. Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins will boost them in problem areas, and I expect both to make an instant impact.
Prediction 2-1
Wolves v Manchester City
This is a very difficult start for City following their extended break. On top of that, they will be 6 points behind the leaders before they even kick a ball. Wolves made a lightning start last week with 2 goals in the opening 6 minutes at Brammall Lane. Under normal circumstances City would take a point, but they will want to open with a win. Will they get it? Yes, but barely.
Prediction 1-2
