Premier League Matchday 9 Predictions

Newcastle v Chelsea

Funny results can happen after the international break with lots of players returning from their national teams, and I think there could be one here. Newcastle have played well all season without just rewards. Chelsea have looked very strong lately but I have a gut feeling about this one. They are always a threat going forward but still look susceptible at the back.

Prediction 1-1

Aston Villa v Brighton

So far this season Villa have wiped the floor with the better teams but lost against teams near the bottom. I think that pattern will change here though. Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins have been particularly impressive, whereas Brighton have been mediocre at best. They will more than likely find this season very difficult.

Prediction 2-0

Tottenham v Manchester City

Spurs started to look more of an attacking threat before the international break, but the sour Dele Alli situation will continue to hinder them until it is resolved. City finally have a fit and in-form striker in Gabriel Jesus and have tightened up at the back since the 5-2 defeat against Leicester. I think they will secure another win here.

Prediction 1-2

Manchester United v West Brom

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be wondering what more he has to do in order to get a quality group of players to play decent football. Thankfully for them they are up against a Baggies side who are unable to string 90 minutes together. United should have enough but it won't be comfortable.

Prediction 2-0

Fulham v Everton

Fulham finally have a Premier League win this season, but that papered over a lot of cracks within their squad. Everton, meanwhile, are sliding after a really poor run of form. However, this is a perfect game for them. They will dominate in every area and will have plenty of chances to score.

Prediction 0-2

Sheffield United v West Ham

1 point out of a possible 24 has demonstrated a disastrous start for the Blades and I do not see it getting any better here. A lack of goals and confidence is costing them any hope of surviving this season. This is possibly the best West Ham team for a number of years and I expect them to win this one.

Prediction 1-2

Leeds v Arsenal

Leeds have played well against the big teams so far this season because they have space to play in behind the opposition defence. The same can be said for Arsenal who have struggled against teams who sit deep and hold onto a lead. Last season's top scorer Aubameyang has been short of goals lately so he will be desperate to find the net again.

Prediction 1-2

Liverpool v Leicester

Jurgen Klopp has a massive headache here with almost his entire first team out with either injury or coronavirus. The likes of Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane really have to step up this weekend. The Foxes will never have a better chance to win at Anfield, and against a very make-shift Liverpool defence, I think they will win here.

Prediction 1-2

Burnley v Crystal Palace

Burnley look to be another team who will struggle this season. The quality they have is not coming through and they are worryingly easier to beat than in previous years. Palace are still going along nicely and they should have enough quality to win at Turf Moor.

Prediction 0-2

Wolves v Southampton

This sees a pair of in-form teams face each other. Wolves are not missing Diogo Jota as much as people thought and have adapted very well without him. The Saints are certainly on the march at the moment and are playing some very attractive football. When the dust settles on this one I expect the teams to finish where they started - level.

Prediction 1-1
