Premier League Matchday 16 Predictions
Crystal Palace v Leicester
Palace will be very disappointed with their recent form. Not only have they conceded ten times in their last two games, but they were well beaten by ten men on Boxing Day. Leicester came from behind twice to earn a draw against Manchester United, and even with the shortest recovery time out of any teams in the league, I expect the Foxes to leave the capital with a win.
Prediction 0-2
Chelsea v Aston Villa
Chelsea were absolutely shocking at the Emirates on Boxing Day. They were dominated from minute one and looked like a team miles away from winning the league. Villa, despite only having ten men for half the game, took control early and kept their foot on the gas throughout. I have a sneaky feeling Villa will get a result here.
Prediction 1-1
Everton v Manchester City
The Toffees are loving the festive period this season - four wins in a row and just a single penalty conceded during that run. They face a Manchester City side who, despite having Sergio Aguero back, are not killing teams off like they have done in previous seasons. This one could be really tight, possibly even a one-goal game.
Prediction 1-1
Brighton v Arsenal
Brighton are in a false position so far this season for one simple reason - they do not score enough goals. Unless that changes I can see them being in a long-haul relegation battle. Arsenal were superb against Chelsea and fully deserved their 3-1 win. Surely Arteta has to stick with the likes of Martinelli, Saka and Smith-Rowe. If he does, the Gunners win this comfortably.
Prediction 0-2
Burnley v Sheffield United
This has the feel of a relegation six-pointer about it, especially for Sheffield United. This is their last chance to win a league game before the new year. They played well against Everton last time, but suffered another defeat. Burnley, meanwhile, are another team who do not score enough goals. I would not be surprised if both teams settle for a draw from the first whistle.
Prediction 0-0
Southampton v West Ham
This is a game that could be very exciting - two teams playing well, scoring goals and currently have no relegation fears holding them back. The Saints will be disappointed to draw a blank against Fulham, while the Hammers continue to have what can only be described as a 'real mixed bag' of results. I would expect goals here, with the hosts to edge it.
Prediction 2-1
West Brom v Leeds
Sam Allardyce has had a very mixed start - a heavy defeat against Aston Villa followed by a very valuable point at Anfield. Big Sam still has a big job on his hands, but he will be encouraged by the fight they showed against the champions. They face a Leeds team who score a lot but also concede a lot. They are certainly the entertainers in the league, but despite that, they should have to much for West Brom here.
Prediction 0-2
Manchester United v Wolves
Manchester United were ahead twice against Leicester before being pegged back to draw the game. That will be frustrating for them and it means their perfect away record this season is over. Wolves got a draw very late in the game against Spurs at the weekend and they always attack teams from the first minute. They will fancy their chances at Old Trafford, but I reckon United will bounce back with a win.
Prediction 2-1
Tottenham v Fulham
Despite Spurs' inconsistent run recently, they are still within touch of leaders Liverpool. This will encourage Mourinho, but he will know these are the sort of games that they have to win to be considered serious challengers. Fulham are a better team than they were a few weeks ago, but this is a step up for them and I expect it to be a step too far.
Prediction 3-0
Newcastle v Liverpool
Newcastle didn't play that badly against Manchester City but really left Miguel Almiron isolated up front. They can not afford to repeat that mistake here. Liverpool, despite the fact they are top of the league, are giving teams more chances compared to last season. If Newcastle can get Almiron some support then they can cause problems, but I don't think they will have enough to secure a result.
Prediction 0-2
