Premier League Matchday 22 Predictions
Sheffield United v West Brom
Sheffield United must be getting frustrated by now. They finally win a game, but everyone else above them picks up points too. I expect them to win this one, however, it won't have any long term effects on their fate. West Brom showed some steel in their draw at the weekend, but they have to start going for wins if they are to have any chance of beating the drop.
Prediction 2-0
Wolves v Arsenal
It is very rare to say there is a dip in Wolves' form, but this is definitely a good time to play them. They look short on goals and short of belief that they can win a game. Arsenal are unbeaten since before Christmas, and their draw with Manchester United at the weekend with an under strength side was another example of their improvement.
Prediction 0-2
Manchester United v Southampton
United are so unpredictable at the moment. They were outstanding against Liverpool in the cup last weekend, but have followed that up with a couple of shocking performances in the league. The Saints will make it difficult for them, but they too are struggling to find a win in the league at the moment.
Prediction 1-0
Newcastle v Crystal Palace
The result of the weekend had to be Newcastle's away win at Goodison Park. They were hardly in control of the game but it was a much needed win for them. They might fancy their chances of another win here. Palace have been hard to beat at the moment, but this is a game they will go for and believe they can win. That could play into Newcastle's hands.
Prediction 2-1
Burnley v Manchester City
Burnley were well beat at Chelsea in their last game and offered very little as an attacking side. I would expect more from them here because they are at home. However, City are flying at the moment. Their gritty win over Sheffield United at the weekend shows that they not only have the class, but also the stomach for the fight. Pep might make changes with Liverpool coming up on Sunday, but either way I think they will win here.
Prediction 0-2
Fulham v Leicester
Fulham surprised a lot of people by winning at the King Power in November, and I have a feeling they could repeat that result here. They have started scoring again and if Scott Parker can sure the defence up, they have every chance. Leicester will be wounded after Leeds beat them at the weekend, so they will be desperate to get back to winning ways.
Prediction 2-1
Leeds v Everton
Both of these teams were involved in surprising results at the weekend - Leeds because they won and Everton because they lost. Carlo Ancelotti shouldn't be too worried because they had a lot of the ball and created lots of chances. It would be typical Leeds if they lost this one, so that is why I am backing the Toffees.
Prediction 1-2
Aston Villa v West Ham
Villa were very lucky to come away from St Mary's with a win last time out. Matty Cash's handball should have led to a penalty and a straight red card, while Southampton's disallowed equaliser goes against everything we love about football. If there is any justice in the game then West Ham will win this. They will need to be much better than they were against Liverpool.
Prediction 1-2
Liverpool v Brighton
What a week Liverpool have had - back-to-back wins at Spurs and West Ham have revived their hopes of keeping their title. I would expect them to win here, but Brighton will be on a high after they themselves beat Spurs at the weekend. Graham Potter's team will be as competitive as always, but they might not be able to keep the Champions at bay for 90 minutes.
Prediction 3-0
Tottenham v Chelsea
Spurs have had an awful week - defeats to Liverpool and Brighton means that suddenly a top 4 place is looking in doubt. They face Thomas Tuchel's side who have got a win and a draw from his opening week in charge. A pattern of Chelsea under him is that they have dominated possession but have not done a lot with it. They probably will have more of the ball here - whether they break Spurs down will decide this game.
Prediction 1-1
