Premier League Matchday 24 Predictions
Leicester v Liverpool
Leicester needed an added time winner to seal their place in the FA Cup quarter finals in the week, but they did so once again without Jamie Vardy - proving they can win without him. I don't know what Jurgen Klopp was talking about last weekend, blaming Allison's howlers on 'cold feet'. Liverpool, even when they equalised, were second best. They have played themselves out of the title race, and if they lose this one, they are in a fight to finish in the top 4.
Prediction 2-1
Crystal Palace v Burnley
This should be a very tight game - both teams prefer letting the other team have possession because they are very well organised, then hitting teams on the break. As the home team, Palace have to be the ones to take the game to their visitors. Sean Dyche will play his style which has been very successful for Burnley lately. Both teams should end up around mid-table, so hopefully they will both have a go at this one.
Prediction 2-0
Manchester City v Tottenham
The home side here are flying at the moment - their win over Swansea in the cup on Wednesday made it 15 consecutive wins in all competitions (a well deserved club record). Their win at Anfield last weekend got them in pole position to claim the title and I am backing them to record another win here. Spurs conceded 5 at Everton in their last game - you do not beat City with a defensive record like that.
Prediction 3-1
Brighton v Aston Villa
Brighton look to have played their way completely away from the drop zone, while Villa have been looking more towards the top of the table and the European places. The success of both of these teams recently has been their defensive accumbent, and I am expecting a tight game here - and certainly not a goal fest.
Prediction 1-1
Southampton v Wolves
These two teams met in the FA Cup only days ago, and the Saints were far superior and fully deserved their win. I actually am expecting more of the same in the Premier League. Wolves did have chances, and of course the game could have been different if a couple of those chances had been taken. However, Southampton looked the more dangerous team and ,in my opinion, have the better attacking players at the moment.
Prediction 2-1
West Brom v Manchester United
I really do not like using the phrase 'a banker result' because it can make you look very foolish. However, I am fairly comfortable saying that United will win this one easily. While they have lacked consistency at times this season, even a poor performance should be enough here. The Baggies need to stop conceding goals if they are to have any chance at all of staying up, but I fear it might already be too late.
Prediction 0-3
Arsenal v Leeds
After a superb run, the Gunners have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, albeit one of those was with only 9 players. The reason I am backing them to end that run here is they will have a lot of the ball and ask questions defensively of Leeds. Against the big teams this season, Leeds have come unstuck because they do not seem to be able to withstand any sustained spell of pressure. They are always a threat going forward, and that could make this an entertaining game.
Prediction 3-1
Everton v Fulham
Everton were certainly not short on goals or entertainment when they beat Spurs 5-4 in the cup. Every time they attacked they looked as if they were going to score. Defensively, Ancelotti might be concerned, however, they should beat Fulham anyway. Scott Parker's men have showed a lot of fight recently, but they are drawing too many games that they should be winning.
Prediction 3-0
West Ham v Sheffield United
I keep saying that West Ham will not be able to maintain this good season they are having, but I am beginning to feel that they might. They look like a team who have been together for years - there's a real cohesion about their football at the moment. Sheffield United, on the other hand, seem to be winning cup games with ease but are unable to transfer that into the league. That will ultimately cost them their Premier League status.
Prediction 2-0
Chelsea v Newcastle
The winning run goes on under Thomas Tuchel, although Barnsley were desperately unlucky not to force at least extra time against them. I expect a more familiar looking team in this one, and a better performance. Steve Bruce will be without Callum Wilson for the next 6 weeks which is a huge loss for them. I do no think he would have made a difference to the result here, however.
Prediction 2-0
