Premier League Matchday 25 Predictions
Wolves v Leeds
Wolves have been improving in the league recently and the news that Raul Jimenez is back in training will be a huge boost for them. I'm getting annoyed with Leeds - they did the same thing last weekend as they have done against the better sides this season and they got torn apart again. Next season, when teams work out how to play Leeds, Bielsa will have to have a plan B. For this season, though, they are perfectly safe and can afford to play an open, expansive game.
Prediction 2-2
Southampton v Chelsea
Six defeats in a row for the Saints in the league have really stalled their progress - they were in the top 7 a matter of weeks ago. The cup run, though, means they could still have a successful season. Chelsea are still unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel. He has clearly asked his team to play a more possession game and to control the tempo. It has worked so far and will continue to work here.
Prediction 0-2
Burnley v West Brom
Burnley never play badly but they never play particularly well either. They have their way of playing and it means they keep getting points and slowly but surely climbing away from the relegation zone. This is another game I expect them to win. West Brom surely have to see this game as a last throw of the dice - a win and they can start to believe they can close the gap.
Prediction 1-0
Liverpool v Everton
If ever Everton have a chance to win at Anfield, then surely this is the time. They are coming of the back of a couple of disappointing performances, but they will not need any motivating for this one. Liverpool's win over Leipzig in the Champions League could turn out to be massive for them - mainly because it ended a 3 match losing streak. I don't think they will lose again but it wouldn't surprise me if Everton left with something.
Prediction 1-1
Fulham v Sheffield United
What a massive game this is - but definitely more so for Sheffield United. A defeat here and surely they will accept they are going to be relegated. Fulham, meanwhile, have drawn a lot of games recently but finally got a deserved win at Goodison Park last time out. If they get another win here then they will only be 3 points behind Newcastle. It could be a great escape for Scott Parker's side after all.
Prediction 2-1
West Ham v Tottenham
I say this every week at the moment but West Ham continue to impress. The only reason I think they will miss out on Champions League football is because there are 4 better teams than them in the league. I expect them to make this tricky for Spurs, who really can not afford to lose this if they want to make the top 4. I just can't bet against the Hammers - they are playing too well.
Prediction 1-1
Aston Villa v Leicester
This has got all the makings of a very tight game. The one advantage the home side might have is Leicester were in Prague on Thursday night and used their strongest team in the Europa League. I don't see fitness playing a massive part, though, and this should be an open and attacking game. Jamie Vardy and Ollie Watkins have both been brilliant for their teams this season, so whoever has their shooting boots on could decide this one.
Prediction 1-1
Arsenal v Manchester City
Arsenal were much better against Leeds last weekend. They had space to play between the lines and they made the most of it. They will not get that against City here though. The visitors recorded their 10th league win in a row at Everton in midweek, and will be boosted even more by the return of Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne in that game. It's almost impossible to bet against Manchester City at the moment, who seem to be cruising towards another league title.
Prediction 1-3
Manchester United v Newcastle
If City do slip up, United will want to make the most of it. They have dropped a lot of cheap points lately - Everton and Sheffield United at home spring to mind. They have to win games like this if they are to have any chance of catching the leaders. Newcastle will be worryingly looking over their shoulder - a Fulham win would cut the gap to just 3 points ahead of this game.
Prediction 2-0
Brighton v Crystal Palace
I don't think either of these teams have anything to worry about this season, although the form book is very much in Brighton's favour coming into this one. Palace were well beaten at home last weekend by Burnley. It was surprising to see a Roy Hodgson side get opened up so easily and so often at home. They will want a response on the South coast, but I am backing the Seagulls to edge this one.
Prediction 2-1
Leeds v Southampton
This is a rearranged game that was postponed due to coronavirus. With both of these teams having challenging assignments at the weekend, this could be very difficult to predict. Leeds might be the perfect opponents for an out of form Southampton side. If they can keep the back door closed then they will always get chances going forward. They will need to watch Patrick Bamford, though, who has proved this season that he can score goals at this level. I would not be surprised if he got another one tonight.
Prediction 2-1
