Premier League Matchday 31 and FA Cup Semi-final Predictions
Premier League Matchday 31
Everton v Tottenham
This is a massive game in the race for a place in the top four. Everton will feel more pressure to win it because they are at home and have the tougher run in, while Spurs will feel that a win here will put them in prime position to pounce if anyone ahead of them slip up. Spurs were totally outplayed by Manchester United last week, but I expect them to come out on top here.
Prediction 1-2
Newcastle v West Ham
A win here for Newcastle would all but settle the issue at the bottom of the league. Having Callum Wilson back too should be a huge boost and increase their attacking threat. Although West Ham are winning games, being 3-0 ahead in back-to-back games and only winning 3-2 is worrying. They need to control games better if they are to cement a top four finish. I do not see the Hammers scoring three at St. James' Park though.
Prediction 1-1
Wolves v Sheffield United
Sheffield United will be relegated this weekend if they lose and they will surely want to show a bit of fight and passion before they are mathematically relegated. Wolves' season is threatening to peter out into nothing, but Nuno will make sure his team keep putting in good performances. I think Sheffield United might survive another week, but that's it.
Prediction 1-1
Arsenal v Fulham
Arsenal have had a really good week; a big win in the league last time out and an even bigger win in Prague on Thursday night. Arsenal could still finish in that final Europa League spot but surely have to be perfect from here on in. Fulham look like they know they are down and are just waiting for the season to end, although a shock result here might reinstate some belief for them. That is highly unlikely however.
Prediction 3-0
Manchester United v Burnley
Manchester United also cruised into the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night, and this should be another walk in the park for them. They are almost certainly going to finish second which would be a good achievement for them. Burnley probably need one more win to secure their status in the top flight. It will happen just not this weekend.
Prediction 3-0
Leeds v Liverpool
This was a crackerjack of a game on the opening weekend of the season when the visitors came out 4-3 winners. This might not be quite that this time round, but Liverpool will be hurting from the Madrid defeat. That means they will end this season without a trophy and possibly without Champions League football for next season. Leeds will be confident after winning at the Etihad last week, and how impressive would it be to follow it up with another huge scalp.
Prediction 2-2
FA Cup Semi-finals
Chelsea v Manchester City
This has got all the ingredients to be a very exciting game, but I do not think it will be. Thomas Tuchel will want his team to control the ball when they have it, drop deep and frustrate City; the same as Leeds did to them last week. Chelsea's best chance of winning this game is to get on the front foot and make it uncomfortable for City, otherwise if they allow City the first goal, this might be game over. City will be desperate to keep their hopes of a famous quadruple alive, and I think if they win this it is another piece of the jigsaw slotted into place.
Prediction 1-2
Leicester v Southampton
The Foxes might look like the obvious choice for this one, but it is the Saints who have been in a cup final more recently. I actually think this could be the better game because neither team would have expected to be here at the start of the season. Brendan Rodgers has done everything at Leicester apart from delivering them a trophy, and this is a good chance for them to do so. Southampton, meanwhile, have hit a rocky patch in the league that they have not yet recovered from, although their cup performances have remained very strong throughout the season. I am backing the Foxes here, but this could be a long one.
Prediction 2-2 (Leicester to win on penalties)
