Premier League Matchday 34/35 Predictions
Leicester v Newcastle
Leicester will want to win this and hope other results go their way. If that all happens then they will be almost guaranteed a top four spot and will be able to focus fully on the FA Cup final next weekend. Newcastle's last game is against Fulham which means they might need one more result to confirm their stay in the top flight, although they obviously believe they are already safe with their lacklustre performance against Arsenal last week. I am expecting a similar result here.
Prediction 2-0
Leeds v Tottenham
Leeds will once again be without Kalvin Phillips and Raphina which are massive blows for them. They usually score goals for fun but fell completely flat against Brighton last weekend. Spurs need to win every game and hope other results go their way if they are to achieve a European spot for next season, and with the likes of Son and Kane firing again, I would expect them to win this one.
Prediction 0-2
Sheffield United v Crystal Palace
Sometimes after a team has already been relegated, they start playing with freedom and win a few games towards the end of the season. I can't see that happening with Sheffield United though. That squad is full of players who probably will not be there next season because of how poor they have been in this campaign. Palace have their own decision to make in the summer about manager Roy Hodgson, but I expect his side to win this one.
Prediction 0-2
Manchester City v Chelsea
This is the second of three huge games between these teams in a short period of time. Chelsea won the FA Cup semi-final and they meet in the Champions League final at the end of the month. In terms of this game though, City will play a much stronger team than they did at Wembley and I think that will see them take the points. Thomas Tuchel has done a brilliant job since taking over, but I am not convinced they will finish in the top four.
Prediction 1-0
Liverpool v Southampton
Even if Liverpool were to win this game, I think it will be too little too late for their top four ambitions this season. All they can do now is try to finish the season on a high and try to secure a Europa League place rather than a Conference League one. I expect them to beat Southampton who seem to be fading quickly after such a strong first half to the season.
Prediction 3-0
Wolves v Brighton
Wolves are another side who are struggling recently - it has been twelve games since they scored more than once. That is very unusual for a Wolves team who are full of attacking threat and tend to score a lot of goals. Brighton are safe now following their comfortable win over Leeds last weekend and I actually fancy them to pick up another one here for good measure.
Prediction 1-2
Aston Villa v Manchester United
It is unclear whether Jack Grealish will be available or not for this one, and recently it seems to have been deciding games. The one issue I have with Villa is they do not look threatening going forward without him. United are in the Europa League and are assured of a top four finish so having three league games in five days should not worry them too much. The other two are more challenging for them but they have a big enough squad that they should be able to cope.
Prediction 1-2
West Ham v Everton
Looking at all the games this weekend, I am most excited by this one. West Ham now have Michail Antonio back firing after his brace against Burnley, and they have to go for it because they are chasing teams to qualify for the Champions League next season. Everton are one of many teams with a better away record this season, and are always a threat with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the squad. If you want goals on a Sunday afternoon this might be for you.
Prediction 2-2
Arsenal v West Brom
The Gunners have been heavily criticised following their Europa League exit against Villarreal on Thursday, but things were nearly so different after Aubameyang struck the post with a late header. I agree with what Mikel Arteta said about them being the better side but they just were not clinical enough. The good news is they will get plenty of chances in this one and will inflict the defeat to send the Baggies down, and give Sam Allardyce the first relegation of his career.
Prediction 3-0
Fulham v Burnley
Fulham probably need three wins from their last four games to have any chance of staying up, though I am backing them to win here. They do play decent football and create some chances; they need to start putting some of them away quickly. Chris Wood will be missing for Burnley which is a big loss after his impressive form lately, although they are already safe and can begin preparations for another season of top flight football.
Prediction 2-1
