Premier League Predictions (Rearranged games due to COVID)

Manchester City v Wolves The impressive form of Manchester City continued against West Ham at the weekend, and will continue even further here. They have found a way of controlling games when they get in front and passing the life out of teams. Wolves haven't impressed me all season, however, I am comparing them to last season when they were exceptional. They still should be higher in the league this season. Prediction 2-0 Burnley v Leicester Both of these sides were well beaten at the weekend  - Burnley at Spurs and Leicester by Arsenal. Burnley will feel they need the points as they are another team being dragged into a relegation battle because of Fulham's improvement in results. Leicester still have a cushion in the Champions League places, but with injuries piling up for them, this is no easy away day for them. Prediction 1-1  Sheffield United v Aston Villa  Sheffield United might start winning a few games now - they are so far from safety there is surely no pressure...

Premier League Matchday 26 Predictions

Manchester City v West Ham The home side are certainly looking like champions at the moment after yet another win last weekend - I forget how many that is in a row but it is a run that has, in my opinion, decided the title. They will be tested against the Hammers - remember they beat Spurs in their last game and are just outside the top 4. However, I don't think West Ham will get a result here. Prediction 2-0  West Brom v Brighton This is a massive game for both of these teams, but particularly for West Brom. Looking at the fixtures they have to come, you feel this is almost a must win game for them. The good thing here is Brighton do not score many goals, which should give the Baggies a chance. Brighton will be wondering how they lost to Palace in their last game - they could be asking similar questions here. Prediction 1-0 Leeds v Aston Villa This is a battle between two teams who are massively surpassing everyone's expectations this season. Last campaign, they were newly pro...

She Loves Me? She Loves Me Not?

Good afternoon and welcome back to today's blog. Before we get into the nitty gritty of what you are rightly thinking is a very interesting read, I want to say that there is another very exciting  interview coming your way. The incredibly talented Charlotte Campbell was generous enough to allow me some time to discuss all the usual musical topics you can think of. There will be a video on my Facebook page 'Connor's Blog' next week and the full transcript will follow here the week after. Exciting times! As for today - what is love? Why do we catch feelings? And are you really being loved or are you just being used to fill a void in another person's life? Well. let's find out shall we? (At this point I will include my usual disclaimer that these are all my opinions from what I have been told and what I have previously experienced in my life. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments if you would like to share). The commonly accepted definition of 'lov...

Premier League Matchday 25 Predictions

Wolves v Leeds Wolves have been improving in the league recently and the news that Raul Jimenez is back in training will be a huge boost for them. I'm getting annoyed with Leeds - they did the same thing last weekend as they have done against the better sides this season and they got torn apart again. Next season, when teams work out how to play Leeds, Bielsa will have to have a plan B. For this season, though, they are perfectly safe and can afford to play an open, expansive game. Prediction 2-2 Southampton v Chelsea Six defeats in a row for the Saints in the league have really stalled their progress - they were in the top 7 a matter of weeks ago. The cup run, though, means they could still have a successful season. Chelsea are still unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel. He has clearly asked his team to play a more possession game and to control the tempo. It has worked so far and will continue to work here. Prediction 0-2 Burnley v West Brom Burnley never play badly but they never play p...

Valentine's Day - Romantic or Overhyped?

Good afternoon and welcome back to this afternoon's blog. It has literally seemed like ages ago since I posted a non-football related blog - unfortunately that is due to the shortened season due to COVID. However, today I thought I would give you some insight into my thoughts about Valentine's Day. February 14th is known as the day of love, the time for romance and a special occasion for those who are happy with someone that they truly love. If you ask someone who truly is in love, they will surely say it is the day of the year when they feel truly happiest. If you ask a 'single pringle' as I like to call them, you will get an answer along the lines of it's 'overrated' or 'unnecessary'. Either way, there is no avoiding that it happens every year. But is it really worth all the hype? Let's first take the views of the husband and wife, the boyfriend and girlfriend, the engaged or those who are happy together. If you ask people in these categories w...

Premier League Matchday 24 Predictions

Leicester v Liverpool Leicester needed an added time winner to seal their place in the FA Cup quarter finals in the week, but they did so once again without Jamie Vardy - proving they can win without him. I don't know what Jurgen Klopp was talking about last weekend, blaming Allison's howlers on 'cold feet'. Liverpool, even when they equalised, were second best. They have played themselves out of the title race, and if they lose this one, they are in a fight to finish in the top 4. Prediction 2-1 Crystal Palace v Burnley This should be a very tight game - both teams prefer letting the other team have possession because they are very well organised, then hitting teams on the break. As the home team, Palace have to be the ones to take the game to their visitors. Sean Dyche will play his style which has been very successful for Burnley lately. Both teams should end up around mid-table, so hopefully they will both have a go at this one. Prediction 2-0  Manchester City v Tot...

Emirates FA Cup 5th round Predictions

Burnley v Bournemouth This is a tie that both of these teams will rightly fancy winning. Burnley's improved form in the Premier League has started to move them clear of the drop, while despite a recent blip, the Cherries are still very much in the hunt for a Championship play-off place. Bournemouth will probably have more possession, but when Burnley do get their chances, I fancy them to have enough quality to finish them. Prediction 2-0 Manchester United v West Ham This for me is the most tasty tie on paper. United were excellent against Liverpool in the last round, then hit 9 past Southampton the following week. However, poor performances in between have been an issue for them all season - they can't put a run of wins together. West Ham are notoriously a poor cup team, but they will fancy their chances at Old Trafford. Prediction 2-1  Swansea v Manchester City This is a tie between second in the Championship and the Premier League leaders. Swansea very much remind me of how M...

Premier League Matchday 23 Predictions

Aston Villa v Arsenal Villa have been on a stuttering run lately and were well beaten by West Ham during the week. I am not worried about them though because they have shown they can win any game on a good day this season. The Gunners will be without David Luiz and Bernd Leno after their red cards midweek, which might force a change to a back three. I would expect a response from both teams after poor performances last time out. Prediction 1-1 Burnley v Brighton Burnley should not be upset about losing to Manchester City in their last game - before that they were on a very decent run. Having said that, Brighton have beaten Spurs and Liverpool in the last week and should be buzzing with confidence. Burnley always make it tough for visiting teams, but the Seagulls have been playing very well lately. Prediction 0-1 Newcastle v Southampton Steve Bruce would have been unhappy with his side's defeat on Tuesday night - they were ahead after 2 minutes but never looked like scoring again af...

Premier League Matchday 22 Predictions

Sheffield United v West Brom Sheffield United must be getting frustrated by now. They finally win a game, but everyone else above them picks up points too. I expect them  to win this one, however, it won't have any long term effects on their fate. West Brom showed some steel in their draw at the weekend, but they have to start going for wins if they are to have any chance of beating the drop. Prediction 2-0 Wolves v Arsenal It is very rare to say there is a dip in Wolves' form, but this is definitely a good time to play them. They look short on goals and short of belief that they can win a game. Arsenal are unbeaten since before Christmas, and their draw with Manchester United at the weekend with an under strength side was another example of their improvement. Prediction 0-2 Manchester United v Southampton United are so unpredictable at the moment. They were outstanding against Liverpool in the cup last weekend, but have followed that up with a couple of shocking performances i...
